About Western Digital SN850X

The WD_BLACK SN850X 8TB is a colossal addition to Western Digital’s flagship lineup, finally breaking the capacity barrier for high-performance consumer storage. Launched in mid-2024, it is one of the few drives on the market to offer massive density without the typical "capacity tax" of sluggish speeds or low-endurance NAND.

To fit 8TB of storage on a standard M.2 2280 form factor, WD upgraded the hardware under the hood. While smaller models use 112-layer NAND, the 8TB version utilizes 162-layer BiCS6 3D TLC NAND. This denser flash allows for a double-sided design that still fits in most modern slots.

Sequential Read: Up to 7,200 MB/s.

Sequential Write: Up to 6,600 MB/s.

Random Read/Write: A staggering 1.2 million IOPS, matching the top-tier responsiveness of the 2TB model.

Endurance: Rated at 4,800 TBW (Terabytes Written), providing extreme longevity for heavy workstation use.

Despite its size, the 8TB model retains the full Game Mode 2.0 suite, including Predictive Loading and Adaptive Thermal Management. It is officially compatible with the PS5 and PS5 Pro, making it the ultimate "all-in-one" expansion for gamers who want to store an entire generation’s worth of games—over 150 AAA titles—on a single drive.
