About Western Digital BLACK SN850X

The WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB represents the pinnacle of the PCIe Gen4 era, offering a massive storage ceiling without sacrificing the "extreme" performance the brand is known for. While the 1TB and 2TB models are standard for many, the 4TB variant is a specialized beast designed for users who want their entire library—and their high-bitrate creative projects—accessible at 7GB/s speeds.

The 4TB model maintains the same blistering read speeds as its smaller counterparts but provides superior endurance for sustained workloads:

Sequential Read: Up to 7,300 MB/s.

Sequential Write: Up to 6,600 MB/s.

Random Read/Write: Up to 1.2M / 1.1M IOPS, ensuring snappy responsiveness even under heavy multitasking.

Endurance (TBW): A staggering 2,400 TBW. This is double the endurance of the 2TB model, making it highly resilient for heavy-duty video editing, AI training sets, or frequent large-scale data transfers.

Unlike the smaller capacities, the 4TB SN850X often utilizes a slightly thicker physical profile (3.88mm vs 2.38mm) due to its high-density NAND layout.

Heatsink Option: For the 4TB capacity, a heatsink is virtually mandatory for heavy users. The increased density leads to more heat generation; the integrated heatsink ensures the drive doesn't "throttle" (slow down to protect itself) during a 200GB game installation or a 4K render.

Game Mode 2.0: On Windows, the WD Dashboard enables Predictive Loading, which uses the 4TB’s ample bandwidth to pre-fetch game assets, virtually eliminating texture "pop-in.
